This now-very-rare Pre-Opening mug was one of the earliest souvenirs created to promote the upcoming opening of the “new” Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park in 1998.
The original Animal Kingdom logo here included five different animals including the dragon in the center which was later removed as the park themed areas were finalized.
At the bottom of the design around the mug is the phrase: “A New Species of the Theme Park Opens 1998.”It was later redesigned without the phrase and with a modified design after the park opened.
This heavy ceramic mug is American-made and is very clean. I don’t know if it was ever used. Later versions of the mug were made overseas…Thailand, I believe.
